Playing in a 3A State Volleyball Tournament play-in game on Halloween in Florence, the 20th seeded Lady Roadrunners nearly pulled off a huge upset over the No. 13 Lady Gophers.
Holbrook outlasted Florence in the first game, 31-29. The Roadrunners controlled the second game more easily, cruising to a 25-14 win to establish a 2-0 lead over the higher seeded team. Florence battled back to win the third game 25-18 and began to gain a shift in momentum. The Gophers kept things going in their favor by winning game four, 25-17. Holbrook failed to regain the momentum and saw its season come to a close with a 15-5 loss in the fifth and final game.
First year Coach Aaron LaRose noted that the team played very well early in the match, but just couldn’t get the points when they needed them in the final three games.
