The Holbrook Lady Roadrunners played well defensively in the first half of their Jan. 10 game with visiting Snowflake, limiting the Lady Lobos to just 13 first half points. In the second half, the two teams played fairly evenly in the 53-37 Holbrook win. Madison Chappell and Ariyana Pratt did most of the damage in the first period, combining for 11 of Holbrook’s 17 first quarter points. In the second the Roadrunners missed some scoring chances with easy buckets inside, but still played well on defense, holding Snowflake to just a pair of field goals to lead 26-13 at the break. In the third Chappell added another seven points to her total and Dakota Dick helped with three to extend Holbrook’s margin to 15 heading into the final stanza. In the fourth Snowflake’s Elle Flake did damage inside, scoring seven of her team high 11 in the final eight minutes. Aiyna Gary, Pratt and Chappell each hit for four points, and Tyanna Smith added three in the final frame as the Holbrook squad secured its 14th win of the season. “We played well defensively, we just missed some scoring opportunities in the first half which could have given us a larger margin,” said Holbrook Coach Greg Perkins. “Madison played well tonight. Along with her points she had numerous steals and rebounds, plus just gave the team a lift with her overall defense. She has scored more in other games this year, but this might have been her best overall performance to date. Ariyana, after a shaky start, played well throughout the game as well. Dakota came off the bench and tried to do a little too much in the first half, but really did her job in the second, taking care of the ball and making some really nice passes to open players. This was a good team win for us.” Holbrook was led in scoring by Chappell, who had 20 points. Pratt added 15; Dick and Smith, 5 each; Gary, 4; Twyla Clark, 2; and Dishie Kinlicheenie and Tyler Pacheco, 1 each. Holbrook made just one three-point shot and went 16 for 26 at the line. Snowflake was led by Flake with 11. Nikita Olms added 9; Madi Butler, 7; Emily Ballard, Jessica Neff, Shanae Stratton, Breklee Tanner and Camaria Reidhead, 2 each. The Lobos made no treys, and went 3 for 8 at the free throw line. With the win the Roadrunners improved to 14-3 on the season and 6-2 in power point games.
