The Lady Roadrunners trend of not being able to put together four solid quarters cost them another game on Tuesday night in St. Johns against the Redskins. Holbrook struggled to score in the second half and saw an 11-point lead turn into a 12-point defeat by the time it was over.

The Ladies shot well from behind the arc in the first half, connecting seven treys with five different players finding the mark. However, in the second half, the only field goals they came up with were two more 3-point shots. Holbrook’s 8 second-half points resulted in the loss. The game was tied at 40-40 midway through the final period, but down the stretch, St. Johns pulled away for the 52-40 win.

Shayla Attakai led Holbrook in scoring with her 9 points all coming from behind the arc. Deya Guerrero added 7 with two triples. Channing Harrington, Alayna Yazzie, and Angelica Uranga each netted 5 and each had a 3-point field goal. Lanaya Tsosie’s only 3 points came from distance. Chelsey Begaye, Bailey Williams, and KC Tsosie each scored 2 points.

With the loss, Holbrook dropped to 1-3 in the early part of the season. On Tuesday, they will face a tough challenge when they travel to Chinle. The Wildcats are unbeaten through four games and return the majority of their final four roster from last season. This weekend Holbrook will play six games over three days at the Round Valley Tournament.

“We have played well in moments. Once we put together a four-quarter game we can compete with anyone. We have some young players who are still trying to figure out the varsity level, but I have complete confidence in them going forward. Last week we were battling illness, and only suited up nine girls at St. Johns. Hopefully a long weekend off has gotten us a little healthier as we head into a busy week,” stated Coach Greg Perkins.
