Hoping to keep their hopes of hosting a first round play in game alive, the Lady Roadrunners had a setback on Tuesday during the fall break suffering a 3-1 loss to visiting Payson. Holbrook won the first game but Payson’s middle hitter Raegen Ashby controlled the net from that point on. Seemingly every time her teammates set her up she finished the point with a powerful kill shot that Holbrook had no answer for.
Payson went on to win games two, three and four to secure the win and move ahead of Holbrook in the power rankings.
Holbrook entered this week ranked 18th, and needs to climb to at least 16th in order to host that play off game on Oct. 31.
After playing at Show Low on Tuesday, Holbrook will have a difficult task on hand when they travel to top ranked Snowflake this Thursday. Holbrook’s final week of the regular season will have them hosting Winslow next Tuesday, then finishing things up at Payson on Oct. 26. The Lady Roadrunners will most likely need to win three of their final four matches in order to earn a home match for the play in game.
