Softball 2 Holbrook

The Lady Roadrunners played just one day over the spring break, but that one day turned out to be a pair of wins as they beat visiting Page in a double header on Tuesday.

Holbrook made short work of the Sand Devils in the first game scoring five runs in the bottom of the first, then ending the game under the 10-run rule with five more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Holbrook’s defense played well behind pitcher Destany Begay who allowed no runs on eight hits with a pair of strikeouts.

At the dish Kallee Reidhead was 2 for 2; Canela Queiruga, 2 for 3; Madison Chappell, 1 for 2; Aiyana Gary, 1 for 2; Carla Plumb, 1 for 2; Makenzi Thompson, 1 for 2 with a double; and Sydney Plumb went 1 for 2 with a double.

The second game went the full seven frames. Page took the early lead with runs in both the first and second innings. Holbrook caught and passed them with three runs in the bottom of the third. Page went back on top scoring three in the fourth only to see Holbrook go ahead for good with five runs in the home half of the fourth inning. The Birds added two more in the fifth for good measure in the 10-5 win.

Queiruga went 3 for 4 with a home run; Chappell, 1 for 3; Carla Plumb, 1 for 3; Jovon Boling, 1 for 4; Thompson, 1 for 4; and Jelena Despain was 1 for 3.

Rayanna Yellowhair and Plumb combined to work seven innings in the circle. Collectively they gave up five runs on three hits with seven strikeouts and walked seven.

With the two wins the softball team stands at 10-6 overall and they are now 4-1 in power point contests.

After hosting Round Valley on Tuesday they will have a week off to prepare to welcome Show Low next Tuesday.
