The Lady Roadrunners picked up their second win of the season Tuesday night in Chinle, coming home with a 66-40 win over the Lady Wildcats. Holbrook built a five-point lead through the first eight minutes, then expanded that margin to 32-17 by the half. In the third the Roadrunner defense held the home team to just two field goals, growing the lead to 23 points heading into the fourth. The Roadrunners again outscored Chinle in the final eight minutes to secure the win. “We started out with a lot of energy and played well in the first period. Had we not missed some layups early we would have had a better lead,” said Coach Greg Perkins. “Defensively we did a decent job of pressuring their guards and keeping the ball out of the paint. We really struggled on rebounding, which is an area we will be focusing on this week. We had a stretch in the third quarter where we got a little tired and played sloppy on offense, but our defense kept us out in front. “This is a good win for us, because Chinle will win several games this year, which helps us in power points. Now we can turn our focus to Winslow for Tuesday.” All 10 Holbrook players contributed in the scoring column, led by Teyah Goldtooth with 13 points. Cheyenne Lester and Adriana Monroe each hit for 10, Ariyana Pratt and Rochelle Nez both had 7, Quanyyah Lester added 6, Dishie Kinlicheenie, 5, Laurie Brown and Tyler Pacheco, 3 each, and Summer Olney, 2. Holbrook made eight of 10 free throws and connected for six three-point shots. Chinle was led by D’Meara Yazzie with 9 points and Laurie Ryan added 8. The Wildcats made no three-point shots and went 12 for 22 at the charity stripe. Holbrook, now 2-0, will play at Winslow on Tuesday, Dec. 9, followed by six games at the Round Valley Tournament scheduled Thursday through Saturday, Dec. 11-13, in Eagar. On Monday, Dec. 15, the Roadrunners host Valley Sanders.
