The Lady Roadrunners added two wins to their early season total with a come from behind home field win over Williams on Monday followed by a solid 10-run rule win at Chinle on Wednesday.

Mondays’ game with Williams saw the Vikings in complete control of the game through the first five innings. They scored once in the first, added 2 more in the third, and extended their lead to 4-0 with a run in the fifth. With Holbrook struggling at the plate through the first four innings it looked like the visitors would leave with a win.

However, in the sixth their pitcher seemingly got fatigued and Holbrook took advantage and scored all 6 of their runs in that sixth inning to lead by 2. Williams scored once in the top of the seventh, but Holbrook was able to close the door with the 6-5 win.

Holbrook had just eight hits in the game, with most of those coming in the sixth inning. Angelica Uranga went 2 for 3; London Gardner, 1 for 3; Micah Winn, 1 for 3; Elena Philpott, 1 for 2; Willow Guttery, 1 for 4; Leah Gashweseoma, 1 for 3 with a double; and Alexis Young went 1 for 2.

Philpott worked all seven innings in the circle allowing 5 runs on 6 hits with 7 strikeouts and walked 2.

Playing in Chinle, Holbrook played better from the start but again had to come from behind at least in the second inning. The Wildcats led 2-1 through two, but in the fourth frame Holbrook pushed across 5 runs. They put the game away with a 7-run sixth inning. When Chinle could only score once the game ended with Holbrook on top 13-3.

Jaycee Greer went 2 for 3; Heide Bahe, 2 for 4; Young, 2 for 4; Uranga, 2 for 4; and Philpott was 1 for 4 with a double.

Gardner did the work in the circle giving up 3 runs on 4 hits with 4 strikeouts and 3 walks in six innings pitched.

With the win Holbrook improved their overall season record to 7-7 and they are now 3-0 in regular season power point games.

This week they will be tested as they open region play against Snowflake and Winslow. They will play in Snowflake on Tuesday, then host Winslow on Friday. Next week they play at Mogollon on Monday.
