A long trip to Page on Saturday was followed by four long quarters on the court for the Lady Roadrunners, who fell to the Lady Sand Devils 70-37. Holbrook trailed 23-5 at the end of the first and was still down by 13 at the half. The Roadrunners opened the third period with an old fashioned three-point play by Dishie Kinlicheenie, which pulled them within 10 points of their highly ranked hosts, but that would be as close as they would get. Taking advantage of numerous Holbrook turnovers and poor shooting from the Birds, the home team quickly opened up a 20-point lead. Page held Holbrook to just 18 second half points to win in its 15th game of the season against just three losses. Quanyyah Lester led Holbrook’s meager attack with 8 points. Tyler Pacheco added 7; Ariyana Pratt, 6; Laurie Brown and Alishea Kee, 5 each; Kinlicheenie, 3; Twyla Clark, 2; and Sevanah Bitahy, 1. The Roadrunners made four three-point shots and went nine for 14 at the line. Their 32 turnovers and under 25 percent shooting, both caused by Page’s very tough defense, were key to the loss. The loss balanced the Roadrunners’ season mark at 9-9, and they entered the week ranked 21st in power points. They will host Winslow tonight (Jan. 13), then travel to Snowflake on Friday, Jan. 15, and make another long journey the next day to Valley Christian for a matchup with the top ranked Lady Trojans, whose only loss this year is to Page. On Tuesday, Jan. 19, they host Tuba City. All but one of the their remaining opponents are currently ranked inside the top 24 in the Division III power points standings, which equates to them really having to step it up over the course of the next three weeks to make the post-season.
