If any team needed a week off it was the Lady Roadrunners, who headed into fall break after dropping their fourth straight contest with a road loss at Window Rock on Thursday night.

Holbrook defeated Window Rock in three straight games at the beginning of the season back in August. This time around it started well for the Lady Birds as they took the first game 26-24, but the Lady Scouts came roaring back to win the next three games and the match, 25-18, 25-22 and 25-21, leaving Holbrook with a 5-8 mark in power point matches.

In the match, Kellin Bakurza ended with two kills, 16 assists and 13 digs. Aaren LaRose added eight kills, an assist and 20 digs. Bethany Baldwin had eight kills, an ace, eight digs and two blocks. Shantina Kinlicheenie finished with a kill, 13 assists, two aces, 13 digs and a block. Janecia Nez added four kills, an ace and two digs. Tess Baldonado finished with 11 kills, an assist, 14 digs and two blocks. Maria Garcia had two kills and seven digs. Corazon Alvarado had one ace and two digs. Samantha Smith added a kill and five digs. Shandie Demuth finished with two kills, four aces, four digs and a block. The Holbrook squad had fallen to 19th in the power point rankings heading into this week, and will need to win at least two or three of its remaining four matches to have a chance to reach the Division IV state playoffs.

The Lady Birds won’t take to the court again until they host Joseph City on Tuesday, Oct. 18, on a newly redesigned floor at Muñoz Gym. They will have a busy week with three matches in a row, playing at St. Johns on Oct. 19 and hosting Winslow on Oct. 20. They will then wrap up the regular season at Ganado on Oct. 27, which could be a playoff determining match in itself.
