Hosting Window Rock on Wednesday, the Lady Lobos scored in just two innings but seven runs in each of the third and fourth were more than enough to handle the Scouts in a 14-0 win.
Jordyn Powers went 3 for 3, with a triple; Lanee Penrod, 2 for 3 with a double; Jashlee Schneider, 2 for 3 with a double; Sydney Bauer, 2 for 3 with a home run; Hallie McCray, 1 for 1; Rylee Hensley, 1 for 4; and Kaylee Thomas was 1 for 4. Sydney Bauer earned the win in the circle working all five innings where she allowed just one hit with six strikeouts.
Thursday’s game at Thatcher was much more competitive. The Eagles scored once in the first, only to have the Lobos match them at 1-1 with a second frame run. Both teams scored three runs in the third leaving the game knotted at 4-4 heading to the fourth. Snowflake took the lead in the fourth with one run, then pulled ahead by four with three more runs in the top of the fifth. Thatcher mounted a challenge with two in the bottom of the fifth but that was the end of the scoring leaving Snowflake with a hard fought 8-6 road win.
Penrod went 3 for 3; Schneider was 2 for 4; Bauer, 1 for 4; McCray, 1 for 4 but that one was a home run; Hensley, 1 for 2; Thomas, 1 for 3; and Heather Whipple was 1 for 3 with a triple.
Bauer again took the win in the circle. She faced 31 Eagle batters striking out four and walking only three. She allowed six runs on 10 hits.
“We are improving day by day, game by game. The best thing for us to do is go out and play our best. If we eliminate little mistakes we have a chance to make some noise this season,” stated Head Coach Aaron Huish.
Snowflake will play in the Gracie Haught Classic held in Payson this weekend. On Thursday they play Mingus and Dobson. Friday’s pool game will be against Safford.
Snowflake enters that tournament with an overall record of 4-3 and they are 3-1 in regular season contests.
