The Lady Lobos finished the regular season as the No. 2 ranked 3A team in the final rankings. In that lofty position, they also qualified for the new Copper Tournament, in which they were seeded No. 3 for their Tuesday night game with 14th-seeded Monument Valley.
Snowflake won the game 52-44, after pulling away in the final minutes. With that win, they advanced to the second round of the Copper Tournament where they met up with rival Show Low who had dispatched Joseph City in their opening round.
The sixth-seeded Cougars defeated Snowflake 53-45 to earn a spot in the semi-final of the Open Tournament. They will not be in the 3A state tournament.
With the loss, Snowflake now returns to the 3A state tournament, where they received a first-round bye. The Lobos won’t play again until Friday night when they will host either No. 7 Monument Valley or No. 10 ALA-West Foothills. More than likely it will be a rematch with the Mustangs. However, this time the loser will have their season come to a close.
With another win, the Lobos would be in the 3A State Final Four and would play on Friday the 28th at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
