By Greg Perkins The Lady Lobos hit the diamond just once last week picking up a 9-6 road win over Show Low on Tuesday. That win pushed their winning streak to 13 straight games, but that mark will be tested twice this week. Their overall 14-1 record has the Lobos sitting in fourth place in the power rankings heading into their final two games. Right behind them in fifth is their opponent in the final two regular season games. Payson comes in with just two losses and an outstanding pitcher in the circle. Look for both of these games to be low scoring affairs with both teams putting strong pitchers in the circle. Show Low has lost just four games this year and they battled the Lobos tough through the first six innings. Snowflake led 2-1 after the first, then 4-2 after five innings. They added two more runs in the sixth, but the Cougars scored three in the bottom of the sixth making it a 6-5 game. Snowflake picked up three insurance runs in the seventh and held on to win the game 9-6. LillieAnn Hollom went 4 for 4; Jordyn Butler, 2 for 5 with a double; Maren Berger, 2 for 4 with a pair of home runs; Anna Berger, 2 for 5 with a double; Taylee Craner, 2 for 3 with a home run; Zoie Pearce, 1 for 4; Emily Davis, 2 for 4; and Anastatsia Silverhorn was 1 for 4 with a home run. Maren Berger went the distance in the circle where she gave up six runs on five hits with a pair of walks and had 11 strikeouts. The 14-1 Lobos will be in Payson on Tuesday to face the 14-2 Longhorns. On Friday the same two clubs will put a wrap on the regular season in Snowflake. Both teams will be heading to the state tournament and both will host lower seeded teams in first round action on May 8. These two clubs could easily meet again at some point in the state tournament.
