Softball 2 Snowflake

By Greg Perkins The Lady Lobos pushed their winning streak to 12 straight with two more east region victories in games played last week. On Tuesday, Snowflake played host to Blue Ridge where they proceeded to shut out the Yellowjackets in an 8-0 win. Snowflake scored single runs in five of the first six innings and had multiple runs in the second where they scored three times. Eight runs were more than enough for sophomore pitcher Maren Berger who worked all seven innings in the circle. She faced 26 batters allowing just one hit with 13 strikeouts and walked only two. Berger also went 2 for 4 at the plate including a double and a home run. Taylee Craner also homered, going 3 for 4; LillieAnn Hollom, 2 for 4 with a double; Emily Davis, 2 for 3; Zoie Pearce, 1 for 3 with a double; Rylee Wengert, 1 for 2; and Kloah Ulberg was 1 for 1. Friday’s home game with Show Low was much closer. In fact, the Lobos had to battle from behind in the bottom of the seventh to pull out a one-run win. Things were good early on with Snowflake scoring twice in the second and third innings to lead 4-0 through the first four frames. Show Low bats came to life in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, scoring two runs in each inning which saw them overtake the Lobos by two runs after scoring twice in the top of the seventh. Snowflake hasn’t trailed much at all this season but doing what a good team does, they battled back scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh to win the game 7-6. Anna Berger went 2 for 4; Rylee Wengert, 2 for 3 with a double; Emily Davis, 2 for 2; LillieAnn Hollom, 1 for 4 with a double; Maren Berger, 1 for 3 with a double; Taylee Craner, 1 for 3; Zoie Pearce, 1 for 2 with a double; and Anastatsia Silverhorn went 1 for 1. Pearce stole two bases and Maren Berger had one theft. Anna Berger started in the circle and pitched six innings giving up six runs on three hits, with a walk and 16 strikeouts. Maren Berger pitched one inning giving up just one hit with a strikeout. With the two wins, the Lady Lobos pushed their season mark to 12-1. Prior to Friday’s game, they were ranked third in power points behind two unbeaten teams, Sabino and Northwest Christian. Snowflake has just three games left on their docket. After facing Show Low for the second time on Tuesday in Cougar country, they will finish their season with two highly anticipated games against fourth ranked Payson. The first meeting will be Tuesday the 27th in Payson and the regular season finale will be in Snowflake on April 30 when the Longhorns visit Snowflake. Payson entered this week ranked just behind the Lobos in fourth place and they too have just one loss on the season.
