Head Coach Joe Clare’s team started the year slowly, but they seem to be headed in the right direction. They returned from the holiday break with two losses, although both losses were close games against highly ranked teams.
The Lady Lobos were ranked 26th at the end of last week, but despite two losses, they may move up a little. Thursday’s game was in Alchesay against the Lady Falcons who entered that game ranked second in the 3A rankings with just one loss.
Snowflake fought hard, definitely giving the Falcons a game in Whiteriver before coming up three points short in a 58-55 final outcome.
The following night they traveled to Thatcher to face the 11th ranked Eagles. The back-to-back long road trips didn’t faze them too much as they battled the Eagles to a 50-51 overtime loss. A missed lay-up in the closing seconds kept them from upsetting the home team. Both close losses mean the team is beginning to find their stride just in time for east region play to begin.
The Lady Lobos are the defending east region champions and beginning on Wednesday next week they start that defense with a home-court match up with Show Low. On Friday they will host a highly talented Winslow squad. Next Tuesday they travel to face the Longhorns in Payson.
Snowflake enters this week with an overall record of 6-8. In regular season games they are 2-4.
