By Greg Perkins The Lady Lobos of Snowflake went 1-2 in a three-game home stand last week. On Wednesday they fell to Tuba City, 49-63, Thursday was a 58-65 setback against Alchesay, then Saturday they bounced back with a 47-13 win over an overmatched Apache Junction team. Against Tuba City’s Lady Warriors, Melissa Eich played solid with 11 points and 11 boards. Nikita Olms netted 9, as did Tori Flake, who also had 7 steals. Breklee Tanner scored 6; Madison Butler and Makayla Hall, 4 each; Audrey Livingston, 3; and Emily Ballard, 2. The following night the Lobos held an 11-point halftime advantage over the Lady Falcons, but Alchesay erupted for 47 second-half points to reel them in and hand them a tough seven-point loss. Olms played well, scoring 17 points. Tori Flake added 10; Eich 9; Ballard, 8; Elle Flake, 6; Livingston, 4; and Butler and Breklee Tanner, 2 each. Saturday’s game was an elegant cruise for the Lobos as they handed a struggling Lady Prospector team from Apache Junction a huge loss. Snowflake’s defense gave up just 13 points in the win. Olms and Elle Flake led the way with 11 points each. Tori Flake added 7; Ballard and Tanner, 6 each; and Livingston, Eich and Mickelle Stradling, 2 each. The Lobos headed into the week with an overall mark of 15-11. Prior to Tuesday’s game at Window Rock they were ranked sixth in the section and will need to remain in that position to qualify for the section tournament, which begins on Tuesday in Chinle, Feb. 9. Only six teams get into the section tournament with the top two seeds, most likely Page and Chinle, getting first round byes. The semifinal girls games will be played on Thursday, Feb. 11, with the section championship slated on Saturday, Feb. 13. Even if the Lobos fall short of reaching the section tournament they will still most likely qualify for the Division III state tournament, which begins in two weeks. They will host Many Farms on Friday, Feb. 5, in their regular season finale.
