Snowflake’s Lady Lobos have compiled an overall record of 7-3 through the first semester of action. They wrapped up that portion of their schedule going 1-2 in three games played last week.

The Lobos were in Florence on Dec. 17 where they came up just four points short in a 47-51 loss to a solid Florence ball club. The long bus ride didn’t faze the Lobos who came off the bus firing and built a 16-10 first period lead. That six-point margin vanished in the second with the Gophers taking a two-point lead to the break. Florence padded a single point to their lead in the third, then both teams struggled to score in the fourth but the home town Gophers scored enough to win the game by four points.

Trysten Hancock led the Lobos in scoring with 9 points. Macee Papa and Taryn Flake both added 8, Emily Davis, and Austin Stratton each netted 6; Kamri Ballard, 5; Marynda Caldwell, 2; and Heather Whipple helped with a single point.

Thursday night Snowflake had a bus ride in the opposite direction when they played a good Valley team in Sanders. The Lobos survived Valley’s three-point assault and prevailed 56-49. All but four of the Lobo points came from four players. Hancock netted 17; Ballard, 13; Davis, 12; and Papa joined the double figure group with 10. Hannah Nichols and Whipple each had two in the win.

Snowflake stayed home on Saturday afternoon to face the defending 3A state champion Page Sand Devils. Through the first three quarters of this game the Lobos improvement showed through. They stuck with the champs until the final minutes of the game where Page pulled away with their full court pressure eventually handing Snowflake their first home court loss of the season with a 42-58 setback.

Papa and Ballard each netted 12 in the loss. Hancock ended with 9. Nichols, Whipple, Caldwell and Stratton each had two, and Flake scored one point in the loss.

The Lobos head into the Christmas break with a regular season mark of 3-2. They will play in the platinum division of the Chandler Prep Tournament held in the Valley on Jan. 2, 3 and 4. The Lobos are slated to play Mogollon at 7 p.m. on Thursday night. They will then face either Valley Lutheran or Monument Valley the following afternoon at 3 p.m.

Snowflake will return to regular season action on Jan. 9 when they play at Alchesay.
