The Lobos played their way into the 3A State tournament field with a 6-1 win over North Pointe Prep in Wednesday’s play-in game. In the first round of the state tournament Snowflake had their season come to a close with a 14-0 loss to Empire.

Their win over the Falcons from North Point Prep on April 25 saw Snowflake score twice in the bottom of the first. The only run they gave up to the Falcons came in the top of the second. Snowflake matched them with a run in the second then added another in the fifth and two more in the sixth.

Sydney Bauer didn’t need much cushion as she gave up only two hits with 11 strikeouts in the circle. At the plate Kaylee Thomas was 4 for 4; Rylee Hensley, 2 for 4, with a homer and a double; Hallie McCray, 2 for 3; Jashlee Schneider, 1 for 3; and Heather Whipple went 1 for 2.

The opening round of the 16-team bracket didn’t go as well for 10th seeded Snowflake. They struggled against seventh seeded Empire pitching, finishing with just two hits in the 14-0 loss. Rylee Hensley and Kaylee Thomas each went 1 for 2.

Bauer pitched 4.2 innings giving up 13 runs on 11 hits with three walks. Rylee Hensley pitched one-third of an inning, giving up one run on one hit.
