The Lady Lobos layoff for spring break didn’t cause them much rust, based on their 17-4 road win at Florence last Tuesday.

The game was close through the first four innings, but Snowflake pulled away late, winning under the 10-run rule in the sixth. Both teams scored twice in the opening frame, then the Lobos edged ahead 4-3 through three. The Lady Gophers battled back to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth, but that would be as close as they would get.

Snowflake pushed across three runs in the fifth, then blew the game open by scoring 10 runs in the top of the sixth for the win.

Lobo pitchers held Florence to just five hits in the game with six strikeouts and just one walk.

Returning to East Region play on Thursday at Winslow, the Lobos gave up a first inning run to the Bulldogs, but tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the second. They fell behind again after giving up a run in the bottom of the fourth.

That margin remained until the top of the seventh when Snowflake caught and passed Winslow with two runs to win the game 3-2.

Last week the Lobos went 4-4 at the Gracie Haught tournament, bringing their overall record to 11-4. In the more important power point contests they stand at 4-0. With the initial power rankings set to be released on Tuesday, the Lobos should find themselves in a comfortable position midway through the season.

After playing at Payson on Tuesday the Lobos will finish the week with a three-game home stand. Today (March 29) they host Tuba City, on Friday Holbrook visits and on Saturday Chino Valley will come to town. Next Tuesday, the Lobos will travel to Show Low.
