With Tuesday’s match at Show Low being the last of the regular season for the Lady Lobos, they figure to be placed into the 16-team state tournament bracket no lower than a six or seven seed with an overall 14-3 record. Snowflake will play in the Division III state tournament at either 12 noon or 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7, at the Prescott Valley Events Center.
The Lobos earned a split in two matches played last week, easily cruising past Payson in three games on Tuesday, 25-12, 25-11 and 30-28. Thursday’s match in Flagstaff against the fifth ranked Coconino Lady Panthers didn’t go quite as well, with Snowflake losing in four games, 22-25, 18-25, 25-15 and 23-25.
In that match Emma Tenney led the team with 18 kills, followed by Sydney Olsen with 15, Shelby Reidhead, nine, and Aubry Flake, seven. Defensively Tenney contributed 11 digs, Shayna Austin added eight, Melissa Eich, seven, Sydney Olsen, six, and Eilee Penrod, Aubry Flake, Tori Flake and Elle Flake, two each.
Eich led the way with 32 of the team’s 48 assists. Penrod added 10, while Elle Flake 4, Olsen and Mikelle Stradling each had one.
Snowflake has spent most of the season ranked inside the top eight in the power point rankings. In Division III there are some very solid clubs, including Monument Valley, Flagstaff, Coconino, Cactus and Seton Catholic. For the Lobos to advance deep into the bracket, they will have to get past some very good teams.
