The Lady Lobos picked up their second power point win of the season last Tuesday over Blue Ridge, then posted three wins against two losses at the Round Valley tournament over the weekend.
Playing at Blue Ridge on Tuesday, the Snowflake squad used a 20-point advantage in the second quarter to power their way to a 66-41 road win.
The game was close through the first eight minutes, but by half the Lady Lobos led by 22 points. That lead was never threatened in the second half. Lisha Titus had a big night for Snowflake, pouring in 22 points including a trio of three-point bombs. Tara Nezzie added 16 points along with eight rebounds. Natalie Elkins scored 12; Devrie Woodside, 6; Caitlin Christensen and Tandis Yellowhair, 3 each; and Brittlee Merrell, 2.
On Thursday the Lady Lobos opened play at the Round Valley Shootout against a much taller Thatcher team and fell in the first of two non-bracket games, 42-23. Titus led the team with 8 points and Nezzie added 7.
That afternoon, they faced Silver City, N.M., and picked up their first win of the tourney by a 49-34 final score. Nezzie led the team with 11 points and Woodside scored 10.
Friday marked the beginning of bracket play, where the Lady Lobos opened with a first round win over Morenci, 58-33. Nezzie again led the team in scoring with 12 and Brylee Coplan added 10.
With that win they advanced to face long time East Region foe Alchesay in the quarterfinals. This time the Lady Falcons got the better of them in a 56-35 decision. Nezzie and Elkins scored 11 points each.
That loss dropped the Lady Lobos into the consolation bracket, where they met up with Round Valley in the final game for both teams. Another match-up with a familiar opponent led to a great game for fans of both teams, with the Lady Lobos winning in double overtime, 59-58. Elkins led the way for Snowflake scoring 20 points. Woodside added 10 in the win.
Snowflake is currently 6-3 on the season. After hosting Payson on Tuesday, the Lady Lobos will be back in action at the Winslow Winter Classic this weekend. They will face Tuba City at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 15, in the Petro Gym. On Thursday night they meet up with Hopi in the old gym. They will return to Winslow for bracket play on Saturday, where they will again have two games, with times and locations dependent on the outcome of pool play. This is a competitive tournament with the entire former 3A North Region attending, along with Coconino, Hopi, Alchesay and Joseph City. On Monday, Dec. 19, Snowflake will host Holbrook in a regular season power point match-up.
