By Greg Perkins The Lady Lobos of Snowflake picked up two more wins at the end of last week. They cruised past Show Low on Thursday night, then after a long drive to Goodyear, they defeated Estrella Foothills in overtime on Friday night. Thursday’s game against the Lady Cougars resulted in a dominating 45-16 win. Show Low has struggled in recent years and the Lobos had little problem securing the win. Tori Flake had a solid all around game with 10 points, seven rebounds and seven steals. Makayla Hall added 8 points. Madison Butler finished with 6 points and nine rebounds. Breklee Tanner and Elle Flake added 5 points each; Melissa Eich and Nikita Olms, 4 each; and Audrey Livingston, 2. Friday’s game against the Lady Wolves was a much different affair. After the long bus ride, the Lobos managed only five first period points, but still trailed by just four heading to the second. They flipped the tables on the home team in the second to lead 23-21 at the half. That margin grew to three at the end of the third, but Estrella forced overtime by outscoring the Lobos 16-13 in the fourth. In the extra four-minute session Snowflake’s defense got the job done, limiting the Wolves to just a single point to earn the 56-51 victory. Tori Flake had a big night, netting 26 points on nine of 12 shooting from inside the arc. Livingston added 9 points and nine rebounds. Tanner had 6 points; Elle Flake, 6 and 10 rebounds; Eich, 4; Butler, 3; and Emily Ballard, 2. The Lobos went to the line 33 times converting 17 of those attempts. With the two wins the Lobos improved their season mark to 8-3. They will play in the Valley Christian Tournament Monday through Wednesday, Dec. 28-20, in Chandler. On Monday they will face Holbrook and Maricopa. Tuesday’s games will be against Poston Butte and Tempe. Wednesday’s game will be dependent on results from the first two days. The Snowflake squad will return to regular season action with five consecutive home games which begin on Thursday, Jan. 7, when Apache Junction makes a visit. The next day Chinle comes to town, and the day after that, Thatcher brings in its tall lineup.
