The Lady Lobos had their season come to a close on Tuesday evening in Tuba City where the 13th seeded Lady Warriors handed No. 20 Snowflake a 53-37 loss in the opening round of the 3A state tournament.
The Lobos fought hard through the first frame trailing by just one point. In the second they outscored the home team by three to lead 20-18 at the half. The third quarter was the turning point. Snowflake struggled with Tuba’s full court press, resulting in just six points as the Warriors built a five point lead. In the final eight minutes Tuba City doubled up the Lobos to get the win. Tuba City advanced to Friday night’s second round game where they fell to fourth seeded Valley Christian by six points.
With the loss Snowflake puts a cap on their season, which saw them go 13-16 overall in what was head Coach Don Godfrey’s final season at the helm of the Lady Lobos. Godfrey is stepping down as the head coach after more than 20 years in that position.
