The Lady Lobos wrapped a pair of wins around one loss in last week’s action. Playing at home on Tuesday they easily handled Show Low, 52-37. Friday’s game at Holbrook didn’t go quite as well, with Snowflake on the wrong end of a 68-43 final. On Saturday they bounced back in a big way, picking up a 45-39 overtime win against rival Round Valley.
Tuesday’s home game with the Lady Cougars saw Snowflake struggle early and trail by a bucket at the end of the first. The Lady Lobos’ troubles continued into the second and they went to the break trailing by three. In the second half the tide turned. Snowflake amped up its defense, holding Show Low to single digits in each of the third and fourth periods. That defensive effort sparked the offense and led to the 15-point win.
Devrie Woodside led the team in scoring with 14 points. Tandis Yellowhair and Tara Nezzie finished with 13 each. Yellowhair pulled down seven rebounds and Nezzie grabbed eight. Lisha Titus and Mattie Scott both added 4 points, and Brylee Coplan and Caitlin Christensen each netted 2. As a team, the Lady Lobos made just eight of 24 free throw attempts, had 19 steals and turned the ball over 23 times.

After playing at Joseph City on Tuesday, the Lady Lobos will host Safford on Senior Night this Thursday, Feb. 2, then close out the regular season at Blue Ridge on Friday night. Snowflake headed into this week’s action ranked 34th in power points, and will most likely need to win all three games to qualify for the 24-team state tournament, which begins in two weeks for Division III. If they finish outside the top 24, their season will come to a close.
