Heading into their own invitational this weekend, the Lady Lobos had compiled a 6-0 regular season mark, which included wins in both matches played last week, although they were pushed to the limit by both Thatcher and Payson. Snowflake also won six matches in its own tournament over St. Johns, Winslow, Window Rock twice and Monument Valley. The Lobos’ only losses were to a very tough Mesquite team, which beat them twice.
Playing in Thatcher last Tuesday, the Lobos won the first game 25-23, then trailed for the first time in a match this season, losing both the second and third games 25-20. They bounced back to tie the match by winning game four 25-21, then closed out the match when they won game five 15-12 against a very good Lady Eagle team.
Hosting Payson two days later, the Lobos again had to rally out of a deficit to get the win. Snowflake dropped the first two games 25-22 and 25-21 before rebounding nicely, winning the final three games 25-6, 25-16 and 15-11 to keep a regular season unbeaten record intact.
After being challenged once again at Cactus on Tuesday of this week, the Lobos will play in the Kayenta Township Monument Valley Tournament this weekend. On Tuesday, Sept. 29, they play Blue Ridge at Lakeside.
