By Greg Perkins After going 1-2 in three games last week, the Lady Wildcats of Joseph City find themselves needing a lot of help this week to make the post-season. They entered the week ranked well outside of the top 24, as well as outside the top six in their section standings. They will need to climb inside both those positions with three wins and outside help this week to extend their season to next week. Joseph City fell 40-35 to Red Valley-Cove in Teec Nos Pos last Tuesday, with a slow third period being the culprit in the loss. The Wildcats outscored the Lady Miners in three of the four periods, but the third was their undoing. Chalet Baldwin finished with 10 points and five rebounds for Joseph City. Sadie Tuckfield had 7 points, three assists and three steals. Haley Edwards added 6 points and four rebounds. Last Thursday the Cats played stingy defense on their home court, defeating Ash Fork 50-20. They held the visitors to just seven first half points and only 13 in the second half. Tuckfield hit five three-pointers in her 21-point and seven-steal performance. Alicia Chavez finished with 7 points and nine boards. Baldwin also netted 7 and grabbed seven rebounds. Playing in Rough Rock last Friday the Wildcats found themselves in a first period shootout and trailed just 17-16. In the final three periods they cooled off netting, just single digits in a 59-39 loss. Allison Bushman led the Cats with 11 points and four rebounds. Tuckfield added six assists and four steals. Edwards had 6 points with five rebounds, and Morgan Johnson added 6 points and four boards. Joseph City enters what may be its final week of the season with an overall record of 10-15. After hosting Cibecue on Tuesday they will play at Red Mesa on Friday, Feb. 5, then face St. Michael on the road on Saturday, Feb. 6.
