The Lady Roadrunners bounced back from their loss to Chinle with a 60-28 home court win over Blue Ridge last Friday night. The first half was a struggle for the Birds, but they still led 21-19 at the break. In the second half Holbrook found its stride on the defensive side of the ball and took control of the game with a 28-7 third period run. In the fourth the Birds limited the Yellowjackets to just two free throws to pick up their 12th win of the season. Ariyana Pratt had just three points at the half, but stepped up her game in a big way in the second half to finish with 21 points. Madison Chappell got into early foul trouble, but still finished with 12 points. Tyler Pacheco and Rayanna Wauneka finished with 8 each; Dakota Dick, 4; Dishie Kinlicheenie, 2; and Twyla Clark, 1. The Roadrunners struggled from behind the arc in the first half, failing to find the range. In the second half they focused on inside scoring until Wauneka connected for the team’s only three-pointer in the third. “We were getting good shots in the first half, they just didn’t go in. In the second half we told the girls to get the ball inside more, where both Ariyana and Madison performed well,” said Coach Greg Perkins. “I thought our defense was pretty good overall in the first half, but in the second we really set the tone with it. We got steals and converted them into points. We got steals in the first half, but didn’t get many points off those steals. “We still have a lot of room for improvement and will have to play much better when Monument Valley visits on Thursday.” With the win the Roadrunners improved to 12-2 on the season. After hosting Monument Valley at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 22, they will have time off before resuming action on Friday, Jan. 6, when they host Show Low. On Jan. 7, they travel to Page.
