By Greg Perkins The Lady Roadrunners fought their way into the consolation championship game at the 20-team Gracie Haught Tournament held over the weekend in Payson. In that game they came up short, falling to Snowflake 8-4 in a game called in the sixth inning due to an injury to one of Holbrook’s players. Competing in pool play on Friday, the Roadrunners opened with Willow Canyon and fell 12-6 to the bigger school. They came back with a 12-9 win over the host team Payson. In their final game of pool play they came up just short, losing 3-2 to Apache Junction. Holbrook opened bracket play on Saturday with an impressive 12-0 shutout win over Joseph City. The Birds backed that up with a 6-3 decision over St. Mary’s. Holbrook then dropped a close game to Blue Ridge, losing 6-5 to the Lady Yellowjackets. The Birds then met up with Snowflake in the consolation title game and played well in the 8-4 loss. The Roadrunners overall record is now 8-9-1 on the season. After playing at Chinle on Tuesday they will have nearly a week off for the break. They return to action on Monday, March 31, when they host Mogollon. The next day they play at Payson.
