The Lady Roadrunners’ volleyball season came to a close in the first round of the Division III state tournament last Friday afternoon with a 3-1 loss to Coconino.
Holbrook had worked its way up in the power point rankings to as high as the second position during the season, but a tough stretch of matches late in the season dropped the Roadrunners to the ninth position in the final bracket. Coconino was also ranked high for much of the season, but a late season loss to Flagstaff dropped the Lady Panthers to eighth overall, leaving them matched up with Holbrook in the first round.
The Panthers held on to win the first game 25-23. They easily won the second game 25-16 to go up 2-0. The Roadrunners stayed alive by taking game three 25-21, but saw their season come to a close in the fourth and final game, losing 25-20.
Holbrook closed out the season with an overall season mark of 17-11.
Top ranked Monument Valley won the state crown, defeating No. 2 Cactus last Saturday, 25-20, 26-24, 23-25 and 25-14.
