The Lady Roadrunners of Holbrook pulled off an exciting come from behind, win over visiting Show Low in a five-game match played Tuesday night.
Holbrook struggled to find any sort of rhythm through the first two games, losing them 25-23 and 25-22, yet still had opportunities to pull each game out in the end. The third game of the match was also close, with the Lady Birds eventually prevailing, 27-25.
Late in that third game Holbrook began to find its stride and gain some momentum. The Lady Birds used that momentum to come back and tie the match, winning game four 25-23, then broke away from a 10-10 tie in the fifth game to win the game and the match, 15-10.
Aaren LaRose finished with six aces, six kills and 19 digs. Corazon Alvarado served two aces, and had two kills, one assist and 10 digs. Janecia Nez finished with two aces, four kills, and nine digs. Kellin Bakurza helped with six aces, two kills, 20 assists and seven digs. Shantina Kinlicheenie added two aces, three kills, 21 assists, and 11 digs. Holbrook also saw plenty of action at the Payson Tournament last weekend, finishing with a 4-4 mark in pool play, but dropped the first two games in the double elimination bracket. The Lady Roadrunners picked up wins over Wickenburg, 30-27, Page, 30-24, Miami, 30-20, and Show Low, 30-27. Their pool play losses came against Payson, 30-18, Joseph City, 30-24, Blue Ridge, 30-22, and Safford, 30-24. In bracket play they fell to Agua Fria, 25-22 and 25-14, and to Payson, 25-22 and 25-14.
