Jose Faustino Martinez “Frosty” passed peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2022, at his home in Winslow. Frosty was loved dearly and is survived by his children Ronald (Karen), Stephen (Ronda), Annette (Don), Lisa (Tony), 17 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Frosty was born Dec. 23, 1935, to Soledad and Faustino Martinez. Frosty along with his two sisters Molly and Alice, and brother Ernest grew up in Coopertown. Frosty graduated from Winslow High School in 1954. After graduating he enlisted with the Air Force from 1954 –1958 active duty and Air Force reserves from 1958-1962. While in the Air Force he received his certificate in fabrication of titanium, “Tin Bender.” Through the Air Force he was able to travel all over the world and continue his education. After active duty he came back home to Winslow where he met and later married Beatrice Guadalupe Chavez on June 16, 1961, who preceded him in death in 2017. He was very passionate about learning and creativity. He loved to share his wisdom and would research new technologies. His passion for technology and learning earned him an honorary degree in innovation from Arizona State University in 2017. He passed his love and passion for learning to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In his last days he shared his silliness, kindness, and humor – something the family, friends and those he touched will cherish forever. You will be greatly missed and fondly remembered. Services will be held beginning with a Rosary at 9:30 a.m. followed by Mass at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 4 at Madre de Dios Church, located at 1015 Central St. in Winslow, with a small reception to follow in the back hall of Madre De Dios Church. Greer’s Mortuary of Winslow handled the arrangements.
