The Joseph City Wildcats won’t be headed to the post-season, but they did sweep both games of their doubleheader at Rock Point last Wednesday, which moved their overall regular season record to 8-7 with just Monday’s final game of the season against St. Johns left on the schedule for this year.
The Wildcats took the first game 18-1, scoring 13 of those runs in the first inning. They added the final four in the fifth, ending the game with 20 hits.
Troy Poudrier pitched a complete game, striking out 14 Rock Point batters in five innings of work.
At the plate, Poudrier went 4 for 4, including an in the park home run. Jesse Hulsey was 3 for 4; Bryndon Buckley, 2 for 2; Dylan Romero, 2 for 2; Tyler Fenn 1 for 4; Trey Tuckfield, 2 for 3; Sam Johnstun, 1 for 3; Rance Haddox, 1 for 3; and Jack Wilbanks, 3 for 4 with a home run. Buckley, Romero and Johnstun all hit triples, while Romero, Fenn, Tuckfield, Wilbanks and Poudrier all hit doubles.
The second game was just as lopsided as the first as Joseph City prevailed 21-4. The Cut led 12-4 through the first two innings and scored nine in the third to put away any doubt of who would win.
Cota Smith, Romero and Kolton McCormick combined to work three innings on the hill. Together they allowed four runs on one hit with three walks and had two strikeouts.
Buckley had a big game at the plate, going 4 for 4 with six RBIs, a double and a grand slam. Hulsey was 2 for 3; Smith, 1 for 1; Romero, 2 for 3; Fenn, 1 for 1; Tuckfield, 2 for 3; Johnstun, 2 for 4; Haddox, 1 for 3; Cody Runyan, 2 for 3; and Poudrier, 2 for 2. Poudrier and Runyan each hit two doubles, while Buckley, Romero and Haddox each had one.
