The Holbrook Unified School District Governing Board met on Sept. 11 with Superintendent Dr. Robbie Koerperich presenting information on the upcoming override election that will be part of the November ballot.
Koerperich explained that the override has had voter support for the past 35 years in order to ensure that the students attending the district and those employed at the district receive the necessary funding. Koerperich stated that the district has gone back to the voters every five years in order to keep the full 10 percent override funding level in place.
The total override amount will be for nearly $1.4 million and will be used to serve the 2,000 attending the district. The break down cost per student is $690.84 per year, or $3.83 per school day.
According to Koerperich, the funds allow for small class sizes, competitive salaries, music and physical education courses, extra curricular activities, additional support staff, teacher retention and advanced classes.
At HUSD, the average five year graduation rate is higher than the state average, with an overall 92 percent graduation rate compared to the state’s 82 percent.
Koerperich emphasized that the objective is to prepare students for college, to contribute to society, provide career-ready graduates and facilitate individual success stories.
