A Holbrook resident’s grisly discovery while out for a morning walk has Holbrook police officers investigating the possibility of animal mutilation.

Police received a report that part of the body of a cat was found in a field on the northeast side of town near the old partition plant. The cat appeared to have been cut in half. The report was not received until last Thursday, three days after the animal was discovered, causing some uncertainty as to what may have taken place. According to Holbrook Police Chief Mark Jackson, due to the degree of decomposition, the department has not been able to confirm if it was an act of animal cruelty.

“This is a very strange incident and we haven’t ruled out anything as we continue to look for more evidence,” said Jackson. He explained that the department takes all acts of animal cruelty very seriously, and urges anyone who has seen any such incidents to contact the police department at 524-3991 immediately.
