Upheaval between City of Holbrook and the Holbrook City Council continues with the resignation of City Manager Randy Sullivan on May 16. This marks the third member of city staff leaving this month, with Police Chief Mark Jackson and Lt. Jack Arend retiring just one week prior.
Sullivan explained, “It’s not the job, it’s not the residents of Holbrook, it’s the meetings and the harassment I feel from the mayor and some of the council members. As an adult, I feel that I should be able to stand up for myself. This has affected my kids and that is why I am stepping down.”
Within the terms of the resignation, Sullivan will continue on as city manager for a 60-day period, in which a new manager may be hired, allowing Sullivan to transition back into the finance director position that he originally held. “I still believe that we can accomplish a lot in this city, even with me stepping down,” Sullivan said.
With regards to the Holbrook Police Department, Sullivan said that Navajo County Sheriff KC Clark will provide Deputy Chief Nate Christenson to take on the role of interim police chief for the next three months. Navajo County will continue to pay Christenson’s salary during this time. In addition to Christenson, two deputies from the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office began work as back up patrol for the Holbrook Police Department beginning May 14.
