Holbrook seniors living on their own and receiving meal services from NACOG (Northern Arizona Council of Governments) will now also be getting a face-to-face visit from city employee Carlos Jimenez each week.
During the Nov. 14 meeting the council addressed a memorandum of understanding between the city and NACOG regarding welfare visits to the senior citizens within the community.
In July, the Holbrook Senior Citizens Center lost the contract to provide Meals on Wheels to the seniors so NACOG stepped in and now provides frozen delivered meals to those seniors requesting it. When the senior citizens center had the contract, the city provided Jimenez and a van to deliver the meals and also provide a welfare check for the elderly clients to check on their physical well-being and provide contact they may not have otherwise.
Once the service went to NACOG the council directed the city staff to continue having the employee provide the contact whether they were providing the meals or not but in order to obtain the names of the clients being served by NACOG, an agreement with the federal agency was required.
The council approved the memorandum, realizing that the city would also need to assist senior citizens center director Carla Gabaldon with the reports required by NACOG pertaining to the visits.
