Members of the Holbrook Chamber of Commerce met Aug. 9 and elected new officers.
Gretchen Herndon was elected president, replacing Yvonne Larsen, who has served as president of the organization for the past seven years except for a short period of time in 2015. Herndon is the outpatient program director at Change Point.
Shar Gillespie retained her position as vice president. Trent Larsen was elected treasurer and Missy Daniels, secretary.
The board approved amending the chamber’s policy pertaining to sick leave to accommodate the new state law requiring sick leave accrual for part-time employees.
Chamber Director Cindy Tafoya presented the board with the fiscal report as of Aug. 7. She stated that the checking account reflects a balance of $7,977 plus $6,524 from the previous fiscal year. She noted that two financial reports she obtained from the previous director reflected two different balances, one showing $274 less than the other for membership dues. Tafoya is working with the previous director to determine where the error originated.
The board approved moving the $6,524 from the previous year into savings for a savings account total of $10,500. In addition, funds from the city were received in the amount of $2,118 that will be added to the chamber coffers for operations in the coming year.
The board accepted Colleen Marsh as the latest member to serve on the board. Marsh has lived in Holbrook for the past couple of years and noted that she is excited about serving the community. She is also a volunteer with the Friends of Holbrook Animal Shelter.
Tafoya informed board members that they will need to revisit the line items on their budget as they had approved a budget that was approximately $5,000 more than the $25,420 approved by the city. This will be added to the projected income for the year of $7,100 for a total budget of $32,520. It was decided that the treasurer would be visiting with Tafoya to determine what areas will be cut back to fit the budget.
The chamber will once again host Light Up Holbrook for the holidays. This is a competition to encourage residents to light up their homes. “We want to be the brightest town on the mountain,” said Larsen, adding that it will be an opportunity to bring people into town, and to perhaps enjoy a movie or dine out. The chamber also agreed to host the Festival of Trees this year as part of the Christmas festivities. The theme this year will be A Very Vintage Christmas.
In final action, the board agreed to hold new board orientation on Sept. 23.
The next meeting of the chamber board will be held at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2, with the location to be determined.
