The Holbrook City Council meeting awarded the airport lighting project bid to Scenic Electric in the amount of $468,556 in a unanimous vote on July 10.

Interim City Manager Randy Sullivan said that the city has been working with Armstrong Consultants and Arizona Department of Transportation to get a grant from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to fund the runway lighting project.

“Six potential bidders were sent invitation for bids and a total of 16 plans and specifications were sent out,” shared Sullivan. “We had an onsite visit last week with all six potential bidders showing up.”

Four bids were received and reviewed by Armstrong Consultants. According to Armstrong, all four bids appeared to be responsive with Scenic Electric submitting the lowest at $468,556; AJP Electric’s bid was $475,971; Rural Electric’s bid was $648,549; and Royal Electric’s bid was $674,216.

The total project cost will be $560,576, which includes the construction cost of $468,556, engineering services of $48,380, construction administration costs of $38,640 and sponsor administration costs of $5,000.

The FAA share of the project is $510,460, with the state’s share being $25,058 and the City of Holbrook paying $25,058 as well.

Councilman Tim Dixon asked if this was part of the $312,500 grant that was talked about during the budget. Sullivan acknowledged that it was and that the city’s share had also been budgeted.

Councilman Adam Marsh asked about the payout on the other grant involving the airport. “We are just finishing that grant right now for the shoulder work and resurfacing and that grant will be closing out soon,” said Sullivan.
