By Greg Perkins Holbrook High School is in their second season with an esports team coached by Dan Mitchell. ESPORTS is a computer-based team competition concept with individuals competing against other schools for a collective overall team score. Holbrook competes against much larger schools but does quite well despite having a very small roster. The Holbrook Fighting Freshmen beat the Metro Tech HS RL Team. Holbrook dropped the first two rounds but pulled off a reverse sweep and won the last three rounds. In the five matches, Geoffrey Foutz scored 9 goals from 17 shots, made 2 saves, and earned 2 assists. Santino Martinez scored 8 goals from 27 shots, made 6 saves, and earned 3 assists. Gabriel Davis earned 1 save and took 1 shot. “In Rocket League, you don’t have set positions and instead rotate from defender/goalie, mid-field, and forward/striker. That is how you can end up with goals and goalie saves,” explained Holbrook head esports coach Dan Mitchell. The upcoming esport schedule for Holbrook High School is at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 19, HHS Frontier Gamers vs. Red Mountain HS; at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 21, Holbrook Fighting Freshmen vs Mingus Union High School; and on the same day at 4 p.m., HHS Frontier Gamers vs. Perry High School.
