George Doyle Simpson peacefully and comfortably passed on to a better life on Monday, July 24, 2017. Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 28, at the Holbrook LDS Stake Center. He will be laid to rest in Nutrioso Cemetery in a private family ceremony. George was born May 18, 1940, a special day he shared with his mother and Uncle Doyle, in Eagar to Sherman and Delora (Wilkins) Simpson. He was raised in Nutrioso, St. Johns and Holbrook. He is survived by his gentle wife of 58 years, Jeannie; his daughter, Jody (Dallas) Frost; two sons, Cary (Laurie) Simpson and William Simpson; two sisters, Barbara Hilty and Phyllis Fischer; and a brother, Lawrence. George spent 31 years as a trusted bus driver for Holbrook schools and 19 years as a charismatic salesman for Beck Brothers. He was a valiant member of the Holbrook Volunteer Fire Department and Elks Lodge No. 2450 of Holbrook. He was a raconteur who loved to tell stories of his service as a radioman in the United States Navy, and his adventures as a youth in his beloved Nutrioso. George was described as independent, strong, brave and a man who never made excuses by his 11 grandchildren, Lyndsay, Melanie, Nicole, Austin, Alan, Callie, Ryan, Jordan, Marcus, Matthew and Christopher. George has 10 great-grandchildren with one on the way. He taught his posterity to work hard, do it right the first time, how to fish quietly and to play honestly at solitaire. He married Jeannie on Aug. 16, 1958, in North Carolina while in radio school for the Navy, and they were sealed for time and all eternity in February 2015. George and Jeannie lived life well. They worked hard, played hard and were examples for good in their community. They built a wonderful life together based on love and concern for each other. They worked tirelessly together to build their corner in God’s country–Nutrioso. George’s heart beat its last beat as Jeannie entered the room. George will be fondly remembered by his many friends and family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to First Step of Holbrook.
