A portion of Main Street at 9th South was closed due to recent flooding so public works employees closed that stretch in order to make repairs. There was damage to the subsurface of the road so the town put slurry there for support reported Terry Cooper, Public Works Superintendent, to the council at their meeting of Tuesday, March 21.

Cooper solicited bids from three local pre-qualified ADOT (Arizona Department of Transportation) contracts, which will hurry the project. Show Low Construction did not propose a bid because they have too much work. Surface Contracting’s bid was $26,425 and Hatch Construction’s bid was $19,271.

“The bid from Hatch seems to be real reasonable,” said Cooper, recommending council approve their bid.

Cooper said that it was a two-day project shutting down one lane northbound and one lane southbound to complete the excavation in one day, and the following day flip to the other side and do the rest of the work.

In response to a question posed by Councilman Terril Kay, Cooper said that they did replace the whole pipe across the highway and about 30’ down 9th South noting, “We fixed a couple of other things besides the pipe.”

Town Manager Brian Richards said that the project was scheduled for Monday, March 27.

A motion to accept the bid of $19,271 from Hatch Construction passed unanimously.
