By Tammy Gray The Holbrook Unified School District Governing Board accepted a $4,000 Fuel Up To Play 60 grant Tuesday evening. The funds will be used to encourage healthy eating and physical activity among students. The Fuel Up To Play 60 program is sponsored by the Dairy Council of Arizona. Four Holbrook students were selected as ambassadors for the program, and were offered a VIP experience at an Arizona Cardinals football game. The students reported to the board on their experience at the game, which included leading the team on to the field. They also told the board that they will be working to help bring program activities to the schools. District Superintendent Robbie Koerperich noted that the grant fits in with the goals of the district’s Healthy Holbrook initiative, which is directed at combating obesity, health issues and poor fitness. As per the grant guidelines, the funding includes $1,500 for healthy eating programs, $1,500 for physical activity programs, $500 for kick-off and promotion, $300 for staff stipends and $200 for additional supplies and materials. As part of the terms of the funding, the school will report to the dairy council on the total number of milk, cheese and yogurt items sold or distributed at the school for two school years.
