Erna Stratton Fowler Cates

Erna Stratton Fowler Cates was born in Show Low to James and Alzada Stratton on Dec. 30, 1933. She passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Dec. 22, 2019.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 10, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Winslow Stake Center, with inurnment to follow at Desert View Cemetery.

Erna worked for Indian Health Services, running prenatal, well-baby and general clinics in Winslow, Leupp and Dilcon. She helped so many woman and babies that it was hard to go to the store without running into 10 or 12 people who wanted to say hello and get one of her famous hugs. Later she worked in the Diabetic clinic also. She loved educating and helping people. When an accident forced her to stop working, she was still just a phone call away when someone was in need.

Erna is survived by her children, Wayne Fowler, Kirk Fowler, Debra Pointer, Lani (Robin) White, Darren Fowler and Dean Fowler; her brothers, Phil Z. Stratton and Lou D. Stratton; and many grandchildren and many, many, great-grandchildren.

Erna was preceded in death by her parents, James and Alzada; her sisters, Lynn Morrison, LaJuana Stratton and Shirley Jones; and her children, Michael Fowler and Alzada Fowler.

Greer’s Mortuary of Winslow handled the arrangements.
