By Linda Kor The donations collected for a Hashknife Pony Express monument in Holbrook have reached $10,000 so far. The posse is hoping to erect a 7-foot tall by 8-foot long bronze monument in Holbrook that epitomizes the meaning of the Pony Express, depicting a cowboy on horseback racing with a bag of mail clutched in his hand. The hope is to have the monument in place by 2023 in time for the Posse’s 65th ride. To make that happen there are two opportunities to contribute. For a $1,000 donation, an 8 inch by 8 inch brick will be placed at the base of the monument for an individual, family or business that will include six-lines, with 18 characters (including spaces) per line for the name of the donor and/or a statement of choice. For a $100 donation, a 4 inch by 8-inch brick will be placed at the base of the monument with a three-line maximum of 18 characters per line (including spaces). Since this is a non-profit fundraiser, all or a portion of the donation may be a tax write-off. Donation forms are available at the Holbrook City Hall and at the Holbrook Public Library. Send donations to P.O. Box 215, Holbrook, Ariz. 86025 for a return receipt for taxes. For those not seeking a tax credit, donations will also be taken at any Wells Fargo Bank by requesting it be deposited in the Hashknife Posse Monument bank account.
