The Lady Roadrunners of Holbrook struggled mightily with defense on Tuesday night in Chinle and as a result, they suffered their second loss of the season, falling to the Lady Wildcats 83-65. The Roadrunners led 15-12 at the end of the first period, but in the second the Wildcats began their onslaught, outscoring Holbrook 28-13. The ‘Runners couldn’t stop Chinle’s transition offense and when they did, they didn’t block out so most missed shots ended up as scores eventually anyway. “It is embarrassing the way we played defense tonight,” said Holbrook Coach Greg Perkins. “This program has been built on defense in the past several years and I think this might be the highest point total we have ever given up. “Credit Chinle, they just kept coming at us and we gave them very little in the way of obstacles to the bucket. They have some talented players, no question, but we certainly made things easy for them. “Offensively, we scored 65 points, but we simply can’t give up over 50 points and expect to win games, let alone over 80,” said the coach. Ariyana Pratt was a bright spot for the Birds offensively, leading in scoring with 15 points. Madison Chappell got into early foul trouble and finished with 13. Elena Smith hit three treys for 9, while Tyler Pacheco and Arianna Wauneka both added 6. Dakota Dick netted 5; Tristen Ambrose and Alishea Kee, 3 each; Aiyana Gary and Twyla Clark, 2 each; and Dishie Kinlicheenie, 1. Chinle had five players in double figures in what became a lay up drill for the most part. Amanda Antone and Quannah Ryan scored 19 each; Stacey Begay, 17; Nahatabaa Nacona, 13; and Grayce Claw, 10. With the win the Wildcats improved to 4-3 on the season. Holbrook fell to 11-2 on the season.
