David Eugene Allen, 83 years young, was called home on Saturday, April 1, 2017. A viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, April 7, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Joseph City. There will also be a viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 8, at the church, with funeral services immediately following. He was born Nov. 11, 1933, in Lawton, Okla., to the late David W. and Lorraine Allen. David was a U.S. Army veteran and was employed by Arizona Public Service Co. for 39 years. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Dad was known for his colorful language and his great sense of humor. He served an 18-month temple mission with his eternal companion Lora in the Manila, Phillipines mission. Dad loved to collect coins and two dollar bills, which he received great joy in giving to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will always be remembered as the grandpa from the UP movie. He loved old westerns and Louis L’Amour books. He had a generous heart and loved being around his family. Dad missed his wife and we know they are happily reunited once again. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his eternal companion of 44 years, Lora; his sister, Jerrie Hyder; and his granddaughter, Kinzie Danielle Allen. Survivors include his 11 children, Theresa Lacy, Paul (Madena) Minefee, Trina (Curtis) Garner, Blaine Allen, Lisa (Ira) Lewis, Kenton (Michelle) Allen, Timothy (Christie) Allen, Shane Allen, David C. Allen, Coy Allen and Cale (Kara) Allen; 21 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Greer’s Mortuary of Winslow was in charge of the arrangements.
