Consolidated polling places used in the primary election will also serve as the polling places in the general election on Nov. 4.

The Navajo County Board of Supervisors approved the use of consolidated polling places during a meeting on Tuesday. Combining polling places within certain areas will save the county money on the election by reducing the number of poll workers and equipment necessary.

Cities and towns with consolidated polling places include Holbrook, Winslow, Snowflake, Taylor, Show Low and Pinetop-Lakeside.

In Holbrook, all voting will take place at the Catholic Family Center. City hall will not serve as a polling location.

In Winslow, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints cultural hall will serve as the lone polling site. No voting will take place at the fire station or Bonnie Brennan School.

In Snowflake, voters will report to the Snowflake Social Hall. Our Lady of the Snow Catholic Church will not serve as a polling place.

In Taylor, all voting will take place at the Taylor Intermediate School gymnasium. Voters who previously reported to the Taylor Fire Station will now vote at the school.

The board also approved poll workers for the upcoming election, as required by state law.

Aside from the board meeting, Navajo County Recorder Laurette Justman noted that her department has issued approximately 21,000 early ballots by mail. Those ballots must be returned before the polls close on Nov. 4. They may be returned by mail, in person, delivered to a polling site or dropped in one of the secure ballot drop boxes. Justman recommends that ballots returned by mail be sent no later than Oct. 29 in order to reach her office in time.

In other action Oct. 15, the board:

* Authorized the county attorney’s office to hire an outside attorney for a conflict criminal case on behalf of Pinal County. The cost will be borne by Pinal County.

* Approved a resolution to enter into a mutual aid compact with the State of Arizona. The new compact clarifies reimbursement procedures for emergencies.

* Approved a special use permit for a meteorological tower on Hay Hollow Road.

The next regular board meeting is set for 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at the county complex in Holbrook.
