The City of Holbrook is asking residents to conserve water over the next several days after two of its three wells have gone down. According to Water/Wastewater Supervisor Randy Sullivan, when the main well, No. 3, went down early last week the pump motor was sent out to Phoenix for repair as the backup well No. 5 kicked in to cover the needed water. Then on Friday, Aug. 13, well No. 5 also went down. A third well, No. 7, is the only operating well at this time and it is not capable of providing the necessary water to all residents. The City shut water off to sites such as the Holbrook Unified School District and the city parks over the weekend in hopes of keeping the tanks full, but then on Monday, a break in the line occurred on Mission Lane, causing water to leak out. Sullivan said the episode put the crews into a bit of a panic as they rushed to make the repairs to the line. Now the line is repaired but the concern is that if there is another break and there is an emergency need for water, such as a fire, there will not be the necessary water resources. The city is asking residents to please conserve water until at least Wednesday when the pumps should arrive and be installed. The city asks to please limit all water use from showering to sprinklers until this is resolved.
