christmas house lighted

Get ready for some great holiday bargains when, for the sixth year, Peace Lutheran Church hosts its giant Christmas Bazaar over Veterans Day weekend. The dates are Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 9-11 with hours from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. The venue is Martinez Hall at the Navajo County Fairgrounds in Holbrook. “It looks like it’s going to be another great event,” commented Jeff Johnson, pastor of Peace. “We’re especially excited because we’re making this more of a community event this year.” On Friday and Saturday other non-profit organizations will be setting up tables to market their own items, mostly handcrafted and homemade. “So far we’ve reserved tables for the Girl Scouts, the Bread of Life Mission and Delta Kappa Gamma, but we invite other groups–churches, civic groups, the animal shelter–to join us,” stated Vicki King, congregational president, and avid bazaar worker and shopper. “We want to be a blessing to other non-profit organizations, believing we’ll all do better when we work together.” “We’ll be setting up all day on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of that week (Nov. 6-8),” continued Johnson, “and would love to have anyone with time on their hands join us. It’s a huge job getting ready for this.” Set up hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on each of those days, with lunches and home-cooked dinners provided for the volunteers. “We’ve been working hard all year making quilts, table runners, Christmas stockings, place settings and more,” shared Vivian May, coordinator of the congregation’s quilting group. “Given the hours of labor for each quilt, I think people will get quite a bargain–and they’re beautiful!” All quilted material will be sold via a silent auction with minimum bids established. The bidding will close at noon on Saturday and the winning bidders awarded. “This is truly Holbrook’s biggest rummage sale,” stated Johnson, “but this year we’re trying to expand our crafting and food areas, inviting other groups to share all their talents with us.” At noon on Saturday, all rummage items will be marked down to half-price. “Don’t wait until then,” said Irene Enlund, Church Council member at Peace, “it gets crazy!” To reserve a table for your non-profit organization for Friday and Saturday, or to make a contribution of rummage sale items, contact Johnson at (928) 524-2718 (church) or (928) 421-9061 (cell). Arrangements can be made for pick-up. The Peace Lutheran congregation also invites any interested person to join them for worship at 10 a.m. each Sunday. The church is located at 105 Svenson St. in Holbrook, near the Bread of Life Mission.
