The Joseph City Wildcats dropped their final two regular season games, ending the season with an overall mark of 12-14, but have still earned a berth in the Division IV State Baseball Tournament, which got underway Tuesday afternoon.
Joseph City dropped a one-run decision to Mogollon, 9-8, last Tuesday in Heber, then suffered another one-run loss, this time 12-11 at Ash Fork in the season finale.
Joseph City is the 20th seed in the state tournament and was scheduled to face No. 13 Scottsdale Prep at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon at the Tempe Diablo baseball complex. If they won in the opening round, they would face No. 4 Yuma Catholic at 4 p.m. on Friday afternoon. A win there would put them into the quarterfinal round on Saturday. A loss in any game from here on out would bring their season to a close.
