Holbrook Vice Mayor Wade Carlisle announced his resignation from the city council in order to run for the Arizona State Senate seat at the city council meeting on May 22. Carlisle went on to say that it has been good serving with the council for the past 13 years, adding, “I guess I am jumping out of one frying pan into another.”

Carlisle also noted that in the future he would like to see the council encourage more reports and integration with the Holbrook Chamber of Commerce, as well as the Navajo County Historical Society and Navajo County Fair Board.

As of press, The Tribune-News was unable to obtain a response from Mayor Bobby Tyler as to whether he is pursuing his run for Arizona State Representative, which he had announced earlier this year.

In other business, Councilman Earl Kester said that the Route 66 Festival and Gunslinger Car Show is on target for Friday and Saturday, June 8 and 9. “We didn’t get everything out like we intended,” noted Kester, “but on Friday night there will be a burn-out contest, an adult women’s pin up contest as well as a Karaoke contest. Saturday is the car show with entertainment and things for the kids to do. I hope we have a great show this year.”

Councilwoman Francie Payne disclosed that she had been having impromptu meetings with the residents of Holbrook and noted, “The residents feel we (the council) spend too much time bickering.” She also noted two themes that continually surfaced. One was the need for the council to work together and the other was that an overwhelming majority of the residents were happy to have Randy Sullivan as the city manager.
